July 2026 Message from the CEO

Aaniin,

As we reflect on the first half of 2026, I want to acknowledge the work that has brought us to this point. I am proud of what ZMAL has accomplished and the foundation we continue to build for the future of Zagime Anishinabek.

We began the year with a significant milestone: the signing of the 25-year Power Purchase Agreement for the Mino Giizis Solar Project with SaskPower. Through the Anishinabek Power Alliance, Zagime Anishinabek is a proud partner in a project that will create long-term revenue, employment, training, and business opportunities for our Nation while advancing Indigenous ownership in Saskatchewan’s energy sector.

In our journey toward Self-Determination, we secured the first mortgage approval for the Sage Meadow development under Zagime Anishinabek’s Land Law. This achievement required collaboration between ZMAL, Four Horse Developments, the Nation, our banking partners, and legal advisors. The process strengthened our systems, enhanced our credibility with financial institutions, and established a pathway for future development financing on Nation lands.

Another major milestone is the completion of our first commercial development. The new Omagakii location is now open, and in August, ZMAL will move into its new office space—another Nation-owned asset supporting long-term economic growth. In keeping with our commitment to responsible stewardship, the former Omagakii building will be repurposed and transferred to Basaadiina, ensuring existing Nation assets continue creating value for our people.

While these accomplishments are important, they represent only the beginning. Approximately 2 acres of Sage Meadow have been developed, with more than 280 acres remaining. Meaningful development requires significant capital, strategic investment, and planning as we build the infrastructure and partnerships necessary to unlock the full potential of these lands.

At the same time, we remain focused on improving the performance of our existing assets. Upgrades and improvements to our Yorkton properties are a key priority as we work to strengthen occupancy, increase revenues, and build the financial capacity required for future Nation investments and development opportunities.

The greatest opportunity ahead is the participation of our members. As our economic portfolio grows, there will be increasing opportunities in skilled trades, professional services, entrepreneurship, construction, property management, and business partnerships. We encourage members to pursue the education, training, and business opportunities that will position them to participate in this growth.

Success also depends on strong partnerships. We are advancing several strategic relationships with established companies that will help accelerate future projects, create opportunities, and generate sustainable economic benefits for the Nation.

To celebrate our progress, we are planning a Community BBQ and Grand Opening Celebration in late August for our new retail and office development. We look forward to welcoming members, families, and community partners as we celebrate this milestone and share our vision for the future.

As a Nation member first and CEO second, I remain committed to leading with integrity, transparency, and accountability. Everything we are building is focused on creating opportunity, strengthening our Nation, and generating lasting value for future generations.

As we move forward, I pray for unity among our people. The opportunities before us are significant, and our greatest success will come when we work together with a shared vision. Let us continue building in a way that honours our Treaty ancestors, strengthens our community today, and leaves a legacy that future generations will be proud to inherit.
